Mad On Motors

We are mad on motors. We cover all the major motorsports, racing, automotive news and events.

Formula 1 on the Downs

With a backdrop of the rolling downs and a racetrack steeped in history, this was a unique opportunity to gather friends and family and enjoy an afternoon of live motorsport amongst like-minded GRRC members, whilst enjoying some delicious food and drink.

After receiving a private email, we registered our interest, and were subsequently informed that tables for the day were available to reserve online from 9am the following morning (11 August), to all members of the club. The tables could seat up to six people, so we were encouraged to invite our friends and family to this great day out.

To allow the event organisers to monitor the total capacity, we had to state how many guests we would be bringing at the checkout stage of booking. Due to social distancing, they had to limit the number of tables for the day (which was to be expected).

Tables could not be shared between groups who had not booked together, so we were encouraged to fill our table booking in order to optimise the event capacity, which we duly did (well, 5 of us anyway!!).

Tables of more than six could not be accommodated in any case and of course, any additional guests would not have been permitted into the Sports Beer Garden.

The day was designed with our safety in mind, and fully complied with the government guidance on safe distancing and hygiene. Tables were spaced apart with a two-meter distance, hand sanitisers were available and all staff were wearing PPE.

The whole event was thoroughly enjoyable and demonstrated how some creative thinking and planning can result in a new experience that utilises Goodwood’s facilities in a great way and allows guests to enjoy a Formula 1 ‘fix’ even during these difficult times.

There were some lovely cars on display too!

Nice one Goodwood!
